Welcome to the website of Ms Kalpana Devalia, Consultant Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon. Ms Devalia works as a Consultant in Bariatric and minimally invasive Surgery at Homerton Hospital in London which is a large volume NHS centre for Bariatric Surgery in the UK. Her private practice is at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone, Kent and on Harley Street, London

Her main areas of expertise are bariatric and advanced laparoscopic (keyhole, minimally invasive) surgery. In bariatric surgery, she is competent in performing Gastric bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Banding Surgery. She also offers Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, hernia repair and anti reflux surgery.

She firmly believes in helping the patients make the right choices and provides comprehensive care pre and post operatively. She is one of the few female bariatric surgeons in the UK and very proud to be able to make a difference for her patients.

Professional profile

Ms Devalia undertook a higher surgical training programme in the Southwest Thames Deanery, London and pursued a career in minimally invasive, Upper GI and Bariatric surgery. She completed a fellowship in Bariatric surgery at Homerton Hospital in London and also in Belgium.

She is a member of BOMSS, ASGBI and ALS.

She is passionate about teaching and is on the faculty for a biannual two day Homerton Bariatric Surgery Training Course for aspiring bariatric surgical trainees. She is also on the faculty for an annual two day International Homerton Bariatric Surgery Symposium.

She strongly feels that the key to being a successful bariatric Surgeon is choosing the right team. A multidisciplinary approach involves providing the best care , making the right decisions for the patient and choosing the right operation. The weight loss centre must adhere to the highest standards.
